!st Mate - Water Sports Engineer Justin Perry
Perry, as people call him, grew up a country boy in Grapeland, TX, a small town in East Texas. However, being the 1st mate on a 72' sailing vessel in the Caribbean is not the usual career path of someone that grew up in the piney woods. He didn't find his way down to the Caribbean unitl 2010 after a friend recommomend him for a position on the operations team of Sail Caribbean (a sailing summer camp for teenagers) in the British Virgin islands.
Just after graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Arts & Technology from the University of Texas at Dallas, Perry spent his time working for a couple of tech companies around the Dallas area. But once he made his way to the Caribbean and stepped foot on a sail boat for the first time, he was in love with the Caribbean and Sailing lifestyle. After a few years of back and forth of summer in the BVI and winters in Dallas. Perry found himself finally moving to St. Thomas, USVI, and finally trading in those wrangler jeans and cowboy boots for board shorts, and flip-flops.
Perry can seem quiet at times, but don't let the calm cool exterior fool you. He isn't a one trick pony and growing up a jack-of-all-trades has lead him to playing many different roles over the past couple of years. Some of which include Operations Director and Fleet Captain at Sail Caribbean, Deckhand/Engineer on the tallship S/V Amistad, handyman and mechanic, sous-Chef to Biggi Dodson, and even going from playing a background pirate on the TV show Crossbones to being the preacher at friend's weddings. So regardless of the time of day, you'll see him doing a multitude of tasks and having fun while doing them, especially fullfilling his role as Watersports Engineer on board Three Moons.
Perry has a passion for sailing, food, hiking, woodwork, and having a goal for everyone around him to enjoy the Caribbean lifestyle as much as he does. After working in the area for 6 years, he's very familiar with the area and can point you to some of the best snorkeling, hiking, watersports, bars, and restaurant spots that you may not have heard of.
