Crew Profile

Kristi Marquart has a diverse background within the charter boat and restaurant industries. She holds a
USCG 50 Ton Master License, her Marine Safety STCW 95, is a certified Nitrox diver, and has nine years
of experience handling various boats. Four of those years were spent in California as the crew of a sport
fishing charter, guiding whale watching tours, and working on a scuba diving vessel. She has delivered
sailboats in both the Eastern Caribbean and along the East Coast of the U.S., and most recently spent
the last season working aboard a 74’ ketch that sailed the USVI, BVI & St. Maarten. This is Kristi’s fifth
season navigating local waters and she loves to call the Caribbean her backyard. Her bachelors degree
in Environmental Science paired with her local knowledge of landmarks and wildlife make her an
entertaining guide to the area.

Kristi’s hospitality orientation developed at an early age in her family’s restaurant and brewery in Kansas,
where throughout high school and college she worked in both the kitchen and front-of-house. There she
became a certified Cicerone which qualified her to train staff in beer education and service. She has taken
on various leadership roles including opening a restaurant with the founders of Pebble Beach Food &
Wine, earning certifications in Bar Management & Responsible Alcohol Service, and is a certified
Mixologist. She was promoted to a position that sent her to Denver, Colorado to open two restaurants as
the front-of-house manager. Although land locked again, it was a blessing in disguise because it was
there that she met Brad and the two revived their shared passion to sail and be on the water.
Kristi enjoys utilizing her understanding of flavor profiles in both the drinks and food she serves with her
guests preferences in mind. She also excels at special diets and special requests and sees diet
restrictions as an opportunity to develop new, healthy recipes. A true believer in genuine hospitality, she
goes above and beyond to create memorable experiences with those around her. Guests have said that a
favorite part of their trip was reading Kristi’s “Cocktail of the Day” board first thing in the morning and
anticipating her delicious signature drinks at happy hour.

While Kristi will joke with you that her love for the ocean all started with “The Little Mermaid,” she’ll relay
first hand that it was a memorable vacation to the Virgin Islands when she was 14 that truly lit her path. “It
opened my eyes to a kind of beauty I had never experienced, both above and below the water. I was
hooked!” Kristi is honored to represent Genesis as your Captain and Chef and will ensure your
vacation is the kind you smile about for years to come.

Brad Marquart grew up in a small Mississippi river town in Missouri, developing a taste for catfish. After
completing a degree in Biology at a liberal arts college it was time for some adventure, and he left the
Midwest for a new life on the ocean. He joined a commercial fisheries management consultancy in
Alaska, working to provide precise and timely data regarding catch size and age directly to NOAA. After
working aboard 12 large fishing and fish processing vessels operating out of Dutch Harbor and Juneau,
he traded the Bering Sea for the Rocky Mountains and moved to Denver, Colorado. There he started as
a bioenergy researcher developing alternatives to mining coal, and then continued as an environmental
scientist liaising between the oil and gas industry and state regulatory bodies. However, the power and
diversity of life in the ocean had left a mark.

Upon meeting Kristi, the new team set out to reconnect with previous careers on the water. Denver
provides perhaps the most landlocked American Sailing School in the USA, and the new Kristi and Brad
team took every class they had time for. They left Denver in May 2016 for the east coast where they
assisted with a sailboat delivery, and then took new careers aboard a 74 foot charter ketch here in the
Virgin Islands. Brad has now obtained a USCG Captain’s license and nitrox scuba certification, and he
shares Captain’s, Chef’s and Guide duties with his wife aboard Genesis. An innate naturalist, he
loves identifying fish and studying their behavior. He enjoys life most when guiding snorkel and hiking
excursions in the beautiful Virgin Islands and reflecting after a memorable day building bonds with our
always-interesting guests.
