St. Lucia: A Gem in the Caribbean
As we discussed in a recent post which explained the general regions of the Caribbean, it might be challenging to decide where to focus for your next vacation. St. Lucia is indeed a gem worth exploring for sure!
About St. Lucia
St. Lucia is located in the Eastern Caribbean and part of the Windward Island within the Lesser Antilles (also you will see it referred to as located in the West Indies). It’s probably best known for it’s huge twin conical volcanos called The Pitons. (pictured below). Here on the island of St. Lucia the people are proud and friendly. As such, you are likely to have an authentic Caribbean experience, especially when off the beaten path.
Things to Do
When wandering around the main square of Castries you will find fresh markets, people playing soccer and generally you will see a lively scene. You’ll want to step inside the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception as well to admire the architecture and paintings. Of course there are also many island tours that can be found here as well.
But that’s not all this island has to offer. The hiking is spectacular, you can explore the volcanos, amazing waterfalls and rain forests. There are also bird sanctuaries, sulphur springs, nature preserves and more where you can enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities. And don’t forget the amazing SCUBA diving!
The beaches are of course beautiful as well, including the more private black sand beaches of Anse Mamin.
